Kylie's Story
I have had many friends affected by cancer but most recently in September of 2015, I woke up to a unbearable pain.
Two days later I was rushed to Cairns Base Hospital with a perforated bowel and a unusual mass in my right kidney.
I spent two weeks in hospital recovering from my first near death experience to then begin my next.
On the 8th of October after biopsys, uteroscopy, ultrasounds and CT scans I was diagnosed with Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcanomia.
I was lucky though it was fully contained in my kidney and slow growing. I had my kidney removed in December.
Funny enough it was the perforation that saved my life. It has and is a slow recovery process and has completely changed me.
I want to do Relay For Life to connect with other suvivors because as much as family wants to understand they just can't.
I also want to thank the Cancer Counseling service who help me through some of my toughest days and I want to give to those who have just started their fight and to share my biggest lesson. It's okay not to be okay.
