"My husband's cancer diagnosis has made me appreciate every day."
After her husband was diagnosed with cancer of the bowel when he was 49 years of age, Bev drew a lot of information from Cancer Council via the understanding cancer resources, in particular the ‘telling your children about cancer’ and the ‘what to expect at the end of life’ resources.
I frequently talk to people about Relay and the importance of cancer research and support. I’ve also written numerous stories supporting the Cancer Council and its many programs and research.
Shaving my hair off at the 2015 Relay was one of the most liberating things I’ve ever done. My family team ‘Jordan’ has raised more than $60,000 for Cancer Council since 2007. One of my aims is to have a team in a few overseas Relay for Life events, hopefully starting with one of the New York Relays next year. I have also mentored Relay committee members on how to get publicity for their events and foster relationships with media organizations.
My husband's cancer diagnosis has made me appreciate every day. It has made me value family and friends every day. It has also increased my gratitude and focused my mind on doing more to improve survival rates of cancer.
