"Relay For Life has had a significant impact on my life... After three Relays I had made friends for life."
I Relay in memory of my father, who lost his life to bowel cancer at the young age of 51. He left behind a loving wife and three teenage kids. His life was stolen, robbed of precious experiences and tender moments. Now, I Relay to be his voice.
I Relay to create awareness, to educate, to raise funds and to celebrate life. I stand in the possibility of a cancer-free world.
Relay For Life brings together a community of strangers and creates a family. Sadly, too many of us are touched by cancer in some way. We unite, we walk, we laugh, we cry and we fight. We fight to get one step closer to finding a cure.
I’ve had the pleasure of being both a participant and a committee member of the Albert Park Relay For Life in Victoria. As a participant, I love getting family, friends and colleagues together, setting up a tent beside the picturesque Albert Park Lake and walking for hours. The event is filled with music, activities and food, and no one is a stranger. We are all friends. My favourite part of the event is the candlelight ceremony. I am moved to tears by the love, the loss and the passion of which I am surrounded by. We are all there in hope.
Relay For Life has had a significant impact on my life. While contributing as a committee member, I made life-long friendships. Friends that have inspired me to be a strong and brave person. Before my involvement I had just moved to Melbourne and I had no friends or networks in this new city. After three Relays I had made friends for life. Relay gives me time to reflect on the past, reminiscence about my dad, evaluate what is important to me and gives me strength to fight for what I love. I live in hope of a cancer-free world.
