Penrith team win at  Global Spirit Awards

Penrith Relay For Life’s Team Manny Moo Moo have been awarded joint winners at the Relay For Life Global Spirit Awards.

They celebrate the Best Team award with the UK’s La Dolce Vita from the Aylesbury Relay For Life.

The annual Spirit of Relay Awards are part of the larger Global Relay For Life Awards program organised by the American Cancer Society, and recognise outstanding activities and accomplishments shown by Relay teams, events, volunteers and staff from all over the world.

The Best Team award recognises a team that exemplifies the ‘true spirit of Relay’, having proved a commitment to excellence in each of the key areas of Relay For Life, including fundraising, Survivor and Caregiver engagement and knowledge of their organisation’s mission in the fight against cancer.

Manny Moo Moo was the highest fundraising team at the 2013 Penrith Relay For Life, raising over $21,000. This was an amazing result, especially considering it was their first time participating in Relay For Life.

The twenty-four team members wear cow suits, which represent Emmanual (Manny) Degeling’s love for the spotted animal. Manny beat cancer (hepatoblastoma a tumour on his liver) at the age of one, and as their chief mascot, has inspired many people to get involved and make a difference.
