March 5, 2016 Bairnsdale Relay For Life celebrated their 10th Birthday and it was a celebration for everyone living in East Gippsland, Victoria.
Celebrations commenced with the Spirit of Relay award being presented at the Opening Ceremony to the Cancer Council Ladies of Bairnsdale. The group have tirelessly and generously donated catering services for the Survivors and Carers afternoon tea each year over the past 10 years. Also presented at the Opening Ceremony was a recognition trophy to the four original teams who have participated in each Relay.
After the opening Survivors & Carers lap, the second lap was a rainbow of colours as each participant was asked to wear their very first Relay top or colour, with 2006 starting the lap, 2007 following and so on, it looked amazing!
The Survivors & Carers marquee was decorated with the history of the event including past participant and committee tops, a photo timeline, a quilt for attendees to inscribe a message and a 10th birthday cake!
The volunteer organising committee worked hard to ensure the celebrations were successful by choosing meaningful guest speakers, candle lighters and ribbon cutters to represent each Relaying year at Bairnsdale. It was a beautiful touch, embracing the past and future of the event.
