There are many Relay For Life teams that achieve amazing heights all over the world, and one of those is our very own Summit Super Stars from Western Australia.
The team have been supporting Cancer Council’s Bunbury Southwest Relay For Life for ten years, and in that time have raised more than $500,000, setting a new record for Relay in Australia and making them the highest fundraisers in the country.
The Summit Super Stars were formed by Christine and Geoff Bridges, husband and wife team, who decided to join Relay to support a staff member diagnosed with cancer.
A big part of the Summit Super Star’s fundraising success over the years can be attributed to Christine’s efforts developing an annual Summit Realty Charity Gala Ball, one of the only formal balls in the south west of Western Australia, and a highlight of the local social calendar.
Sadly, just before the 2012 ball, Christine was diagnosed with breast cancer. Due to complications during treatment, Christine died in January 2013.
Without the driving force behind the charity ball, Geoff took up the reigns in 2013 to honour his wife, and went on to celebrate ten years of supporting Cancer Council. It was a wonderful success and a fitting tribute to Christine.
Christine and Geoff’s strategy to fundraising has always been to set achievable targets, to forward plan and to increase the target each year. And as Geoff says, “think big to raise big!”
Another supporting factor is Greg and Michelle Gardiner, owners of Summit Realty South West, who get behind the Bunbury Relay as a corporate sponsor.
Congratulations to the Summit Super Stars we appreciate your support and mammoth efforts over the past ten years!
