We recommend 10-15 people per team.

Before the event your Committee need to allocate sites to teams and for safety reasons; the maximum number of members per site is 15. If there are more than 15 members, well done and consider splitting your team into two so that everyone has plenty of room.

Yes, each Relay For Life event has a registration table, so if you have missed the online registrations head on down ready to relay and register at the venue. There may be an additional charge to register on the day so make sure you register early!

No, however all youth (under 18 years) must have adult supervision at the event. Please refer to your preferred Relay For Life event for more information.

We ask all registrants to raise $200 to support Cancer Council’s vital work in cancer research, prevention and support. Your local Committee/Event Leadership Team and Cancer Council staff member can support you to achieve your fundraising goal. Click here for some helpful fundraising tips.

Relay For Life is about celebrating cancer survivors, remembering loved ones lost and fighting back against cancer. Every dollar you raise counts and helps us work towards a cancer free future.

Each Relay For Life event is different so search for your preferred event to see what activities have been planned, click the ‘On the Day’ heading in the right-hand column of your Relay For Life event page.

Each state will have a way of providing your Relay For Life shirts. They can be collected from your Relay For Life’s information night; on the day at some events. Contact your local Cancer Council to find out your nearest collection location.

NOT all Relay For Life events are the same and not all states send out Team Captain Kits but these items are also available as downloadable items on the event site

We understand that some people won’t be able to stay for the whole time however we recommend that a special effort is made to be at the Candlelight Ceremony, a moving and memorable experience.

A lap refers to the amount of times the "baton" or individual circles the track and crosses the start line. Individuals may set themselves a challenge to see how many times they can cross the start line and at some Relay For Life events they are recognised for their efforts. Check with your local Committee to see if this applies. Relay For Life is a fun event and lap counting is an "honour system".

Yes. These ceremonies are the highlight of Relay For Life and we want to see as many people as possible taking part! Read about registering for your nearest Survivors and Carers lap.

Dogs and other pets are not permitted on any Relay For Life track, with guide dogs and service dogs being an exception. Please check with your Relay For Life committee for more information about bringing your pets.

All donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductible when the donor receives nothing of value in return.The purchase of a raffle ticket, the entry ticket or merchandise is not tax deductible. For more information about taxable donations, please contact the Australian Tax Office.

The event will generally go ahead, rain or shine. In extreme bad weather the organising Committee will decide if it’s safe for the event to continue and be in touch with contingency plans.

Each event has different rules specific to the event location, however there are some universal Relay For Life rules which include:

  • No glass is to be brought to Relay
  • Relay For Life is a smoke and alcohol-free event

Please refer to your preferred Relay event for an extensive list of rules for your state.

Most overnight Relay For Life events provide a breakfast which is arranged by the Committee however please ensure your team members bring their own utensils, plate, cutlery and mug.

Food vendors / Food stalls are at the event and they will have meals and snacks available for sale. We recommend you bring your own healthy snacks to keep you going.

Tea and coffee and water are provided throughout the event.

All events will have qualified first aid officers in attendance for the entire event.

Yes, please invite your family and friends to attend the event so that they can experience the magic of Relay For Life. We ask that all day visitors make a donation to support our mission of a cancer free future.

Relay For Life can’t happen without the support and sponsorship from businesses as well as the general public. We seek sponsorship contributions in the form of cash sponsorship, in-kind contributions, corporate teams, matched workplace giving, signage, giveaways and entertainment (to name a few!).
